Dr. Harald Schöning

Head of Research, Software AG

Dr. Harald Schoning is the Head of Research at Software AG, world leading in enterprise management software. He is also Board member of the NESSI ETP. Dr. Schoning holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Kaiserslautern. He has been involved in object-oriented and database software technology since 1987. This includes work on the design of a complex-object database system, and as an architect of Tamino, Software AG's native XML database.
Dr. Schoning also has given lectures at various universities and teaches courses for the "Deutsche Informatik Akademie". He's the author of books on complex object databases and on XML and databases (in German) and co-author of a book on XQuery (in German). Harald is member of the executive committee of the database group of the German computer science association "Gesellschaft fur Informatik".

Talk Abstract: 

NESSI’s presentation will promote a wide-ranging data vision for Europe on how to capture and advance the value of Big Data to create growth and jobs for the benefit of the whole EU economy. The presentation shall describe a broad range of aspects which need to be addressed in bringing together a European Big Data Innovation Ecosystem. These aspects include not only research and innovation dimensions of Big Data but also applications as well as socio-economic and legal aspects.
